ACEOT The Amsterdam Centre for Eastern Orthodox Theology |
On 28 May 2010 the Amsterdam Centre for Eastern Orthodox Theology (ACEOT) was established. Prof. Wim Janse, dean of the Faculty of Theology, and Prof. Masha Antokolskaia, president of the Dutch Foundation for Eastern Orthodox Theology, Spirituality and Praxis signed a letter of intent to this effect. ASCH American Society of Church History |
The central purpose of the American Society of Church History (ASCH), founded in 1888, is the scholarly study of the history of Christianity and its relationship to surrounding cultures in all periods, locations and contexts. Through publications, conferences, awards, research support, and other means, the Society encourages the study of the Christian church and faith, its figures and movements, in institutional and non-institutional settings. We welcome scholars and practitioners of all backgrounds who employ traditional or newly developing methods, disciplines, and approaches to the study of religion. The ASCH cooperates closely with the American Historical Association and other scholarly societies and organizations in joint annual meetings. |

Canadian Society of Biblical Studies The Canadian Society of Biblical Studies (CSBS) is the oldest humanities academic society in Canada. The Society provides a meeting place for those interested in all aspects of the academic study of the Bible—Hebrew Bible, Septuagint, New Testament—in its literary and historical context. Many of our members work, for example, in the Ancient Near East, post-biblical Judaism, Hellenistic religion and philosophy, archaeology, and Christian origins beyond the New Testament. Our annual meeting occurs in late May or early June, in conjunction with the Congress of Canadian learned societies sponsored by the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences (CFHSS). Members of the Society receive the journal Studies in Religion / Sciences Religieuses, which offers a refereed publication outlet for articles in our fields of study. In addition, Wilfrid Laurier University Press publishes Studies in Christianity and Judaism, a special series devoted to Canadian monographs in early Judaism and Christian origins. The Society annually awards five Awards/Prizes: two for student essays and three for publication and research in our fields of study. |

Founded in 1953 as a Roman Catholic organization of lay and religious teachers of undergraduate theology, the CTS today has a membership of over 900 college and university professors throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. While maintaining its roots in the Roman Catholic tradition, the Society is increasingly ecumenical in its membership and concerns. |

Thus the Academy has collaborated with institutions like the Boston Theological Institute, the French Institute in Athens, DruryUniversity(USA), the Bossey Ecumenical Institute and the World Council of Churches, the Department of Orthodox Theology of the University of Munich, the Athens Pedagogical Institute, the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, the Association of Orthodox Women in Europe, the Middle East Council of Churches(MECC), the Ecumenical Youth Council of Europe(EYCE), the Forum of European Muslim Youth Students Organizations(FEMYSO), the Municipal Center of History in Volos, and a number of journals, academic periodicals and publication houses. As a result of this scholarly activity, the Diocese of Demetrias and the city of Volos have become an international meeting place for encounter and dialogue. |
